Dear St. Michael Family,

Welcome to St. Michael’s School, home of the Cougars, our little slice of heaven in the Alleghenies in Loretto, Pennsylvania. Loretto has a unique history. We are home to the Basilica of Saint Michael the Archangel which is built upon the chapel of Fr. Demetrius Gallitzin. Fr. Demetrius Gallitzin became one of the first Catholic Priests ordained in America. Fr. Demetrius Gallitzin felt it was important to provide a solid Catholic education to the children, free from outside influences. Fr. Demetrius Gallitzin’s belief in Catholic Education is the mission and vision of St. Michael School. 
 
As your principal, I take pride in our experienced and dedicated faculty and staff, exceptional students, supportive parents, and engaged community. St. Michael School was recently recognized for having the most faculty to hold master’s degrees. We work together to create a family atmosphere with a long tradition of academic excellence and student growth. We are a Kindergarten through eighth-grade school. We strive to inspire all students to become the best person they can be. Our students are our future leaders, and we want to instill Christ-like virtues of kindness, compassion, love, and respect. All students have varying academic abilities, however, one thing is for sure, when a student graduates from St. Michael School they will have a foundation that readies them for high school and becoming young women and men of our society.

At St. Michael School, we are building leaders, every day our goal is to meet every student’s individual learning needs and to engage your child in real-world learning experiences. Our classrooms are standards-based, and our teachers engage students through curriculum and different forms of technology. St. Michael School offers students in all grades an opportunity to have 1 to 1 device. Our focus is to develop the whole child through spiritual growth, social/emotional skills, and hands-on learning. 

Your child’s safety and security are of the utmost importance to me, our faculty, and our staff. We have recently installed and upgraded our entire security system throughout the school grounds. The faculty and staff have ongoing training to ensure we are staying current with the best practices. The students also have ongoing training to empower hands-on retention capabilities.  

We are committed to partnering with all members of our school community to ensure a safe and healthy environment for every student. Our teachers, who are nothing short of amazing, are committed to leading and educating our students through the current worldly environment. We will continue to uphold, inspire, and develop the Catholic identity in our students and embrace all the successes and challenges that come with every school year.
